Do your part in keeping our beaches & oceans clean!
Each month, we host a beach clean-up at one of our local beaches here on O'ahu. We like to make this a fun environment for keiki and their families to learn about the importance of keeping our beaches clear of trash, as well as allowing them to learn how it feels to make a difference that largely impacts the future of this planet.
These clean-ups are lead by our occupational therapist, so keiki of all ages and levels of functioning are welcome to attend! It is our goal to keep our events all-inclusive so that everyone has a chance to experience what we have to offer at Our Planet Therapy.
These clean-ups usually start by meeting at a designated location and introducing ourselves to the group. We provide gloves and garbage bags to collect trash. After we explain the rules, we walk together on the shoreline to pick up any trash we see. There will be a prize awarded to the family that finds the most trash that correlates to the specific "color of the day". This helps keeps children more engaged when they have a specific task to follow. These events run from about an hour to an hour and a half, so make sure to bring yourself water, preferably in a reusable bottle, and wear sun protection! When we are finished collecting trash, we will meet and discuss what we found and give out our prizes.
If there are any beaches in particular that you have noticed need some attention, reach out and let us know and we can schedule a clean-up event at your desired beach!
